Igor Tyjon to Arsenal as Gunners agree deal with Blackburn
Arsenal are edging closer to signing Blackburn’s teenage forward Igor Tyjon, a move that has stirred fresh debate among Gunners fans about the club’s real striker priorities.
Arsenal‘s pursuit of young talent continues at pace. They are now making a move for 18-year-old forward who has barely played for his current club. Igor Tyjon, a rising star at Blackburn Rovers, looks set to join Arsenal, as per latest transfer news.
Arsenal Close In On Blackburn’s Igor Tyjon
Arsenal have been tracking Igor Tyjon for quite some time, and their patience finally looks set to pay off. The Premier League champions tried to get a deal done back in January, but talks did not progress quickly enough before that window shut. Now, as reported by BBC Sport, both clubs have reached an agreement. In addition, a medical is likely to follow soon. This suggests the move could be finalised within days rather than weeks.
Tyjon has played just three games for Blackburn’s senior team. Those include two Championship outings during the 2024-25 season and one appearance in the EFL Cup last term. He has not yet put pen to paper on a professional contract with the Ewood Park club and remains in the third year of his scholarship.
Despite this limited senior football experience, his academy numbers tell a different story. He scored 7 goals in 21 games across all competitions for Blackburn’s youth sides last season. He also managed 4 goals in just 10 Premier League 2 matches, a strong return for a player still growing physically.
Arsenal’s history of nurturing raw talent through their Hale End Academy gives this deal added weight. Bukayo Saka, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri all came through that same route before joining the first team. Meanwhile, 16-year-old Max Dowman has already broken into Mikel Arteta’s plans this season. Tyjon will hope to follow a similar path, even though a fee of around £2m is a decent move compared to Arsenal’s usual transfer business.
Tyjon’s stats for 2025/26 at Blackburn Rovers, as per FOTMOB:
| Teams | Matches | Goals | Assists |
| Blackburn Rovers | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| Blackburn Rovers U21 | 15 | 6 | 2 |
Blackburn Reinvest As New Boss Rebuilds His Squad
The sale continues a pattern of promising academy players leaving Blackburn for bigger clubs. This is something new head coach Tony Mowbray will need to address as he reshapes the squad. Mowbray has already brought in Sam Morsy, Jayden Fevrier and Moussa Baradji for a combined fee close to £1.4m. The funds generated from Tyjon’s exit should cover that outlay while leaving room for further additions before the window closes.
For the Gunners, Tyjon’s arrival should be seen as a long-term investment rather than a quick fix. They are building depth for the future while still chasing a big name who can lead the line. Now, how they balance both priorities will likely shape their season.

Why Arsenal Still Need A Proven Number Nine
Signing Tyjon is unlikely to solve Arsenal’s more pressing concern up front. Kai Havertz started the PL opener against Coventry City over Viktor Gyokeres. The German star continues to play as a false nine when required. Though Gyokeres remains the club’s only out-and-out centre forward. Last season, he finished as the club’s top scorer with 14 PL goals and 21 across all competitions. But, Arteta clearly wants more options to sustain a title defence.
Gabriel Jesus looks increasingly likely to leave before the deadline. That said, it only adds to the case for new arrivals. The Gunners are keeping an eye on Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez. They both are proven finishers at the highest level. Now, it will be interesting to see how the north London side carries out their moves before the transfer deadline.
